TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1 - Camp 1 

Approximate time: Santa Marta to the Curb The Mamey sapote (3 hs. in vehicle)

The tour to the Lost City starts from the moment you happened to pick up at the hotel or you can come to the premises of our office.

Once you're on board we set off in a jeep on a tour of approximately 3 hours to the sidewalk of the Mamey, where we will have lunch and we'll start our hike of about 7.6 km

Half way we will stop at the Viewpoint of the three crosses to taste the delicious fruits, and to continue until the first hut “Adam” or “Alfredo” a few minutes later, where we will spend our first night.

During this tour we will enjoy the natural pools that gives us the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and in which we will take a delightful bathroom.

Approximate time:
Our new day brings us another adventure where after taking the breakfast, the tour begins from the first camp to the second “Hut Wiwa” where you can enjoy a refreshing bath in the river Buritaca while we wait for lunch. After a brief rest, our adventure continues deep into the Sierra Nevada, bordering an indigenous people from the community Kogui called “Mutanzhi” and continue until you reach the third camp “Paradise Teyuna”, where we will spend the night on our second day.

Facilities at the camp 3: Toilets and showers, electricity powered by a generator (of 6 pm/9pm.)

Very early, ate breakfast, we will travel 2 km to start the ascent towards our desired City Lost up to 1,200 steps that lead us towards this majestic city of stone composed by roads interconnected, retaining walls, terraces with rings where lay the dwellings of the ancient Tayrona. All of it surrounded by a magical forest and flora and fauna gives us different views and landscapes, from the sunniest days to the forest of mist. Here also we meet with the leader and protector of mother nature and ancient empire Tayrona. After our tour, we will descend to our third camp “Paradise Teyuna” for lunch and then drive back to the second camp, “Cabin Wiwa” where they spend the night.

Approximate time: 

Camp 2 to The Mamey sapote (6 hours) 

Is already next to finish our adventure in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, after taking breakfast, you will go out on a walk of approximately 2 hours into the Camp of Adam Alfredo or where we slept the first night. Once in the first camp, to take a quick break for water and fruit and will continue for another 4 hours all the way back to the Mamey where you will have lunch and come on board of a van 4×4 that will bring you back to the City of Santa Marta.

Recommendations

Please note the following for a very good experience

The climate and the experience with the natives:

  • The trek takes place in a tropical jungle.
  • The climate around 26°C – 32°C. Tends to be hot and very humid, in the nights the temperature can drop to 18°C.
  • There is a lot of mosquitoes, gnats and other insects, so it is recommended to bring insect repellent.
  • There is a high chance of rain, generally in the evening and the path may be parts of apantanadas.
  • During the Tour they have to cross rivers and ravines.
  • Native people and their customs are deserving of respect and tolerance for cultural exchange is positive for them and for you.

Important:

  • The accommodation spaces and power belong to the local communities, we participate and we work in order that the service is of the best quality, however, are independent, and the quality of the facilities depend on them. 
  • The trail and the facilities are shared by all the agencies, so that the flow of tourists varies depending on the season and the amount of each one. 
  • The tour involves risks, the insurance coverage includes accidents or injuries in successive trekking. 
  • Each tourist is responsible for his belongings, Teyuna Tours is not responsible for items left behind or lost during the trip.

At the time of passing through the indigenous communities, please respect their space and privacy. Do not take photos without permission. It is also very important that you follow the indications of the guide and help us care for and preserve the environment of this magical destination.

WHEN Traveling, keep in mind these Tips:

  1. Backpack n.° 1: of good size
  2. Shoes: Boots or Tennis (Good Grip) and flip-flops to Rest.
  3. Clothing: t-Shirts and Shorts Quick-Drying, Socks, Bathing Suit and Long Clothing (For the Night).

Tips:

  • The nights can be cool of about 18°C (640F) wear long sleeves if it thinks fit.
  • Many have only 3 pairs of clothes: one for walking, one for sleeping and one for bathing in the rivers. It is advised to wear clothes quick-drying. 
  • #4 Personal Care: Sunscreen and insect Repellent, Medicines, Toilet Paper, Shampoo and Soap.
  • #5 Hydration: a Bottle of water (1-2 Litres), bring it filled with water on the first day, other days the guide Provera, the necessary water.A better option is a Hydration Bag (Camelbag). 
  • #6 Cash: In case you want to buy something not included in the tour such as bottled water, beverages, crafts and Tips. 
  • #7 Other: Towel quick-drying and low-volume, portable charger for mobile, rain cover and a backpack, flashlight and camera, hand sanitizer.

  • Transport: Pick up from the city of Santa Marta sector of the Historical center. Given the case of being in another sector of Santa Marta, please do so know.
  • Guide:  You can request if it is a different language to the Spanish.
  • Insurance: During your exploration you will have an insurance policy.
  • Power:   From the first day starts with lunch and followed with the other meals during your stay and tour.
  • Snacks:  During the tour you will find stations where you will enjoy the fruits and drinks to keep the energy.

Important: The itinerary of the days 4 and 5 can vary depending on factors such as the weather or the physical condition of the group. The guide may decide, for example, have lunch at the Camp of the Cascades and continue towards the Hut Fredy, or the Cottage on the Bridge to spend the fourth night, completing the tour the next day in The Mamey.

Day 5 – the Camp of the Cascades → Mammy → Santa Marta approximate walking Time: 4.5 hours

  • Breakfast in camp and output.
  • Walk 2 hours up to the Cabin by Fredy.
  • Cruise 1 hour towards the Cottage on the Bridge.
  • Connection with the path of the Day 1 and walk 1.5 hours until The Mamey Sapote.
  • Lunch at Mammy and later transfer by 4×4 to Santa Marta.
  • Estimated arrival: 5:30 – 6:00 PM at the town of Santa Marta (hotel or meeting point agreed upon).

Recommendation for your Trip: Comes with Time 

We recommend you to arrive at the city of Santa Marta or to get to the area adjacent to the Tayrona Park a day before your Trek to the Lost City. This will allow you to rest, organize your luggage with peace of mind and be ready to go the next day without a hitch. In addition, it is an excellent opportunity to meet Santa Marta, the city that has it all.
