We were founded in the The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a region that has allowed us to experience firsthand Colombia’s natural, cultural, and human richness. From there, we design authentic experiences that bring travelers closer to the essence of each place, always with respect for the people, traditions, and environment.
Today we're working closely with indigenous communities, rural communities, and local allies to offer responsible, safe, and memorable experiences in different regions of the country. Each tour aims to benefit both our visitors and the host communities, promoting tourism that drives local development and the conservation of natural and cultural heritage.
We operate both directly and through strategic partnerships in destinations such as the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Tayrona National Natural Park, La Guajira, Amazonas, Guainía, Norcasia and other regions of Colombia. Each experience reflects our commitment to responsible tourism, where traveling also means learning about, respecting, and contributing to the communities that welcome us.
Round Trip Travel.SMR wasn't founded to sell tours. It was founded because there was first and foremost a connection to the region and its communities. The company was a natural outcome of that journey.
Our History
Round Trip Travel.SMR It wasn't conceived behind a desk or as a business venture. Its story began long before it became a company.
From 2016, our founder, Juan, he began working closely with indigenous and rural communities in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. At that time, there was no tourism agency, but there was a deep connection to the region and the people who live there. Travelers and friends often sought out little-known places, hiked trails, and sought unique experiences, sparking an interest in sharing the region’s natural and cultural riches.
In 2018, that interest turned into a career path when he began his studies at Tour Guide. Since then, he has worked as a tour guide, accompanying domestic and international travelers and deepening his knowledge of Colombia’s natural, cultural, and human heritage. Over the years, one question kept coming up:
“Do you have a website or a business where we can make a reservation with you?”
That concern was the impetus to take the next step. After several years of experience in the region and a process of steady growth, in 2023 The Establishment of Round Trip Travel.SMR as a company, officially establishing itself in 2024 like a A tour operator committed to community-based, responsible, and sustainable tourism.
From the very beginning, our mission has been clear: to create experiences that connect travelers with indigenous and rural communities and local businesses, generating opportunities for the people who live in these areas. We believe that tourism can complement traditional activities such as agriculture, local livestock farming, and fish farming, providing new economic opportunities without compromising the cultural identity of each community.
Today, Round Trip Travel.SMR operates directly in the The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and works through partnerships with local operators and communities in destinations such as La Guajira, Amazonas, Guainía and other regions of Colombia. Each partnership shares the same philosophy: that communities should take the lead in these experiences and that tourism should contribute to local development in a responsible manner.
Our work goes beyond just organizing trips. We seek to build bridges between travelers and communities, support local businesses, strengthen the leadership of women, young people, and families, and promote the exchange of knowledge and cultures. We believe that traveling is an opportunity to discover new ways of understanding the world, to value the traditions that are still alive today and help ensure that this cultural and natural heritage continues to be part of Colombia's future.
